Safilo Celebrates 80th with Marc Newson Capsule

Shauns California Debuts First Optical Collection
Quick Take: California-based, Italian-made luxury eyewear line, Shauns California, has unveiled the newest addition to their eyewear offerings, a debut collection of optical frames.
Wearer: Those seeking premium Italian made eyewear with a philanthropic mission.
Specifics: The collection consists of eight optical styles, accounting for 57 new SKUs in total.
Selling Points: Staying true to the brand’s “Soulful Luxury” mission, frames are produced by hand in small family-owned factories at the foot of the Italian Alps. Four of the new shapes are 100 percent premium acetate while the remaining four continue the brand’s exploration of combining acetate with stainless steel and colorful enamel. A balance of rounds, rectangles and cat eye shapes of varying sizes are offered in the debut collection, as well as the unique retro racer shape shown in the crossover sun frame, the Dee (inspired by early 1970’s sports cars, particularly the Porsche 911), while the Tiree offers a new, refined take on the cat eye shape with a combination acetate and stainless steel. The brand continues its “Give Sight” program through the optical collection, which provides an optical exam and pair of glasses for someone in the developing world with each pair sold.

Marcolin USA/Viva Unveil the Gant Spring 2014 Collection
Quick Take: The Gant Eyewear Spring 2014 collection from Marcolin USA/Viva draws its inspiration from the quintessential American Sportswear brand translated into fresh and sporty silhouettes in two-tone and translucent colorations.
Specifics: The Gant men’s optical collection offers six new styles, while the women’s optical collection features four new styles. Gant Rugger presents two new styles with retro-inspired shapes and inventive details.
Selling Points: The eyewear collection focuses on three key trends including “Two-Faced” and “Clear Conscience.” This season, the Gant men’s optical collection offers classic details and two-tone colorations and translucent highlights, including the streamlined G 108 and the retro G 110. The modified rectangle front of the108 is crafted in stainless steel in a satin finish with handcrafted acetate temples; while the G 110 features a mix of translucent color options in handmade acetate, as well as deep shades of tortoise and black to heighten the frame’s retro styling. The women’s optical collection features colorful marbleized temple treatments and metal temple accents. Models GW 4006 and GW 4007 are offered in soft gradient colorations with subtle metal accents on handmade in acetate, while the GW 4006 features a soft square profile and the GW 4007 has a cat-eye inspired front. In Gant Rugger, the GR 108 is a handmade acetate in translucent colorations with subtle metal stud detailing and metal endpieces; while the GR Reed, also handcrafted in acetate, features a keyhole bridge and a wide temple design.

WestGroupe Presents New Evatik Sun Styles

Zyloware Introduces Via Spiga Spring Styles

Best known for her over-the-top whimsical designs, Betsey Johnson has done it again with the Opposites Attract collection. Combining two animal prints, these frames feature an opalescent leopard print paired with a tonal etched zebra design. Mykita Adds New Sunglass Styles for S/S 2014
For the upcoming season, Mykita has gone matte with two new sun styles. The Jarvis and Giles, a square shape and panto, respectively, two typically pedestrian shapes, are brought new life thanks to the addition of a double bridge. The non-flush fitting and set-back top bar brings a sculptural dimensionality that is reminiscent of the silhouette of a vintage metal frame.
