REM Launches Vertebrae-Inspire Spine in U.S.
Quick Take: REM Eyewear has introduced a new type of hinge technology in the new Spine Collection. Inspired by the interaction between vertebrae.
Wearer: Spine has five working vertebrae that constantly interact with each other to create a 90 degree hinge opening. The design’s hinge and cable system flexes the temples in all directions, securing the frame in place and eliminating the need to constantly push the eyewear back up the bridge of the nose.
Specifics: Spine is the result of a global collaboration between REM Eyewear, Canadian supplier Centennial and Mondottica’s U.K. and Hong Kong-based companies. Each will distribute Spine in their respective countries. “Spine brings a new level of functional technology to eyewear that leads to remarkable fit and performance,” said Mike Hundert, CEO of REM. “We are proud to collaborate with the teams at Mondottica and Centennial for the worldwide distribution of this patented technology.”
Selling Points: Spine uses Micro Injection Moulding (MiM) technology, also used in the aerospace, automotive and medical industries, to produce precise metal results. Temple tips are engraved with the Spine signature pattern and also improve grip to reduce slipping. Signature nosepads are encase in high-quality silicone, while lasered sun lenses have an inner anti-reflective coating to minimize glare.
