Tura Marries Vintage and Modern in Kate Young Collection
Quick Take: Tura and fashion stylist Kate Young have partnered to launch Kate Young for Tura, an eyewear collection inspired by Young’s penchant for modern retro styling.
Wearer: “I wanted to create a vintage inspired collection that is sophisticated, elegant and timeless,” said Young. “Tura has a tremendous heritage in the eyewear market but is also incredibly innovative, modern and focused on quality making an ideal partnership.”
Specifics: The collection pairs vintage components with updated silhouettes for six optical frames and eight suns all handcrafted in Italy, France or Japan.
Selling Points: Notable optical styles are the K101, K105 and K106, all different takes on the classic cat eye. The oversized K101 has a round shape with cat eye corners and modern metal endpieces. The K105 is a 1960s-inspired exaggerated cat eye with faceted Swarovski triangle stones. The K106 is a clubmaster-inspired style with a cat eye twist and metal wires that flow to the temples. Kate Young’s K501 sunglass is a dramatic cat eye with Zeiss CR-39 lenses and metal triangles inlaid in the cat eye corners. Style K503 also has Zeiss CR-39 lenses, but is a soft square frame made of thick, transparent acetate. The K504 is another vintage-inspired cat eye that features sleek metal barrel temples and a rimless bottom edge.

Adlens Focuss Launched Across U.S.
Quick Take: Adlens has launched Focuss, its proprietary Variable Power Optics eyewear in the U.S.
Wearer: Beginning this month, eyecare patients will be able to receive Focuss glasses from over 150 eyecare professionals in select states in the Northeast, Midwest and as well as Texas and California. Dave Eichelberger, senior vice president, said the company will target “high-end, innovative practices.” Adlens began training eyecare professionals at those practices this month, he added.
Specifics: The eyewear features a proprietary design that allows wearers to adjust the focus of their individual lenses by turning a small dial inside the frame.
Selling Points: “Focuss fits beautifully within the optical channel. There is no barrier for it being placed in any ECP’s office,” noted Dr. Graeme MacKenzie of Adlens, director of regulatory and industry affairs. Variable Power Optics technology was successfully tested with eyecare patients through a four-month trial with LensCrafters toward the end of 2014, as CustomFocuss. Strong responses validated the technology, aligning with expectations and previous observations of the market, according to Adlens CEO and executive chairman Mike Ferrara.

L’Amy America Debuts New Nicole Miller Styles
Quick Take: L’Amy America has introduced new optical and sun styles into their Nicole Miller collection for Summer 2015.
Specifics: Six new styles, three ophthalmic and three sun.
Selling Points: “The new ophthalmic and sunglass styles represent Nicole’s glamorous and feminine styling with color and incorporating details such as Celtic symbols and matte metal contrasted with shiny metal. The styles are perfect for Spring/Summer wearing with colors and detailing that are both glamorous and fun,” said Cheryl Canning, Nicole Miller brand manager. The distinctive metal plate with raised Celtic design accented by lightly etched temples in a subtle diamond pattern are the hallmarks of the Francis, a feminine eye shape in two-tone spring colors. Inspired by the colors in Nicole Miller’s Fall ready-to-wear collection, the Chelsea style is distinguished by beautiful fronts in rich horn colors, accented by a complementary solid color temples with a triangle pattern. The Bruckner is a bold acetate frame with an upswept edge and signature Celtic details on the temples. In sun, the Prince, a glamorous rounded, was directly inspired by the colors in Nicole’s spring ready-to-wear collection distinguished by fade colors, gradient lenses and signature matte metal Celtic detail. The Roebling sunglass is a modified cat-eye style with a peek-a-boo animal print on the front’s top and along the top of the temples. The Vanderbilt is an easy to wear, glamorous square inspired by the jeweled accessories line with tiny crystals inset in a metal décor design that flows down the acetate temple.

Modo Adds Styles to Paper Thin Titanium Line
Modo Paper Thin Titanium adds four new sun styles to the ultra-thin titanium assortment. The sun collection embodies the brand’s vision of minimalistic and flexible eyewear, the company said.
