Essilor Launches Crizal Prevencia Lenses Nationwide
Wearer: “Our daily lifestyles depend more and more on computers and hand-held digital devices, so it’s no surprise that we’re seeing consumer interest in vision protection against the most dangerous wavelengths in the blue light spectrum,” said Howard Purcell, OD, FAAO, and senior vice president of customer development, Essilor of America. “Patients are becoming more aware of the damage to eyes from UV light, making it important to also communicate the impact blue light emissions have on our eyes—including potential damage to retinal cells that could lead to age-related macular degeneration.”
Specifics: Crizal Prevencia lenses have an E-SPF (eye sun protection factor) of 25, plus superior clarity of vision and protection against glare, scratches, smudges, dust and water, Essilor said.
Selling Points: Through a four-year partnership, Essilor and the Paris Vision Institute discovered the band [415-455 nm] within the blue-violet spectrum that is most harmful to retinal cells. This research led to the development of Crizal Prevencia lenses with Light Scan, featuring a patented technology allowing the beneficial blue light to pass through the lens while filtering out much of the harmful blue-violet and UV light.

Eyeking Debuts Under Armour Phenom Sunglasses
Eyeking has introduced the new Phenom sunglasses from Under Armour Performance Eyewear featuring the same design language of the UA Spine running sneaker and an articulated temple. Prior to the release of the UA Spine running shoe, the Eyeking design team had explored ways to innovate within the eyewear category by applying the science of biomimicry. Inspired by the skeletal and muscular structure of the human spine, it became backbone of their approach to a performance sunglass chassis. Ultimately, the temple’s plastic structure emulates the vertebrae and the rubber the ligaments or tendons providing a fit that conforms to the wearer's head. Additionally, the brow incorporates Eyeking’s patent-pending cap gripper which allows the sunglass to be worn upside down and grip securely to the bill of a cap when not in use.
