REM and Converse Debut New Jack Purcell Collection
More Images |
Wearer: “We have invested more than two years of product development to create eyewear that aesthetically embodies the brand’s core attributes,” said Mike Hundert, CEO of REM. “Converse Jack Purcell consumers love their experiences with this brand and our eyewear will build on that tradition.”
Specifics: The collection consists of 14 styles; eight optical frames and six sunglasses equipped with CR-39 lenses.
Selling Points: “Designing Jack Purcell eyewear was a natural process; we took direct inspiration from the brand’s DNA,” added Nicolas Roseillier, creative director of REM. “We used iconic elements such as the smile, the wavy graphic pattern, vintage color palettes, and classic shapes to create a collection that extends Jack Purcell as a lifestyle brand.” Design components support the foundation of Converse Jack Purcell; carefully curated styling that translates this consumer’s “less is more” philosophy. Highlights include handmade acetate with five to seven barrel hinges, the Jack Purcell logo inside the temples and laser engraved on the right sun lens, the Jack Purcell license plate inside the right temple, the signature Jack Purcell wave pattern at the endpiece and the Jack Purcell “smile” in a metal inlay on the temple tips.

141 Eyewear Launches Ultem Collection
More Images |
Wearer: “Our collection featured lightweight acetate frames, and Ultem creates even more durability and comfort options for the consumer who likes the acetate look. Our retailers and their customers love having the new option,” said Shu-Chu Yamaguchi, co-founder of 141 Eyewear.
Specifics: Ultem is featured in the Taylor and Naito for women; the Alder for men; and the unisex Irving, Williams and Gadsby styles.
Selling Points: “We set out to establish ourselves not just as a giving company, but a product innovator that can combine great looks and cutting-edge materials,” continued Yamaguchi. “Making durable, fashionable and accessible frames ultimately accelerates our ability to give.” The material is part of the family of amorphous thermoplastic polyetherimide (PEI) resins manufactured by SABIC, an international manufacturer. Its strength, light weight, flexibility and temperature/chemical resistance made it a favorite of engineers who design medical and chemical instrumentation. These same properties attracted 141 Eyewear since frames made with Ultem provide more comfort and can withstand extreme temperatures (-30 to 217 degrees), which means fewer adjustments and a longer-lasting fit, the company said.

Hydrogel Expands Icuity H2O With Icuity H2O LD
More Images |
Specifics: Icuity H2O LD is made with hioxifilcon A, a non-ionic ultra-hydrating material that retains 99 percent of its water content on the eye, even under extreme conditions. All lens dimensions and oxygen permeability are present throughout the entire wearing time. Lens comfort, movement and fit are stable throughout the day. Icuity H2O LD lenses are available in an 8.6 base curve from -0.25 to -8.00.
Selling Points: Icuity H2O LD is the only large diameter disposable lens on the market. The larger diameter acts as a problem solver for patients who would benefit from a larger lens. It also provides increased comfort for patients who experience lens awareness in the product they are currently wearing. The 14.8 diameter provides full coverage sitting under the lid so any interaction that could cause discomfort from the lens edge is gone, the company noted. Diagnostic fit sets of Icuity H2O LD are available directly through Hydrogel Vision and through any of their authorized distributors. Hydrogel Vision is a division of Walman Optical.
