VSP Optics Group Launches TechShield Blue, a Blue Light Reduction Coating
![]() View Larger Image |
Wearer: “You may not be able to escape blue light in our digitally-connected world, but you can reduce how much your eyes are exposed to it,” said Randy Dannewitz, vice president of strategic development for VSP Optics Group. “TechShield Blue provides comfortable vision for screen time and digital device use, and is a meaningful enhancement for any type of prescription eyewear.”
Specifics: By the time the average American child turns 17 years old, they will have spent one-third of their entire life looking at screens that emit high-energy blue light, according to VSP. As blue light exposure continues to grow, children and adults alike are experiencing digital eye strain, which includes physical discomfort after long exposure to digital screens.
TechShield Blue, which replaces VSP Optics Group’s Sharper Image TechShield, targets the highest energy blue light wavelengths associated with digital eye strain, absorbing and reflecting incoming light from digital screens, energy efficient lighting and the sun. The near-clear coating also delivers advanced AR benefits including enhanced visual performance, backside UV protection and minimal backside reflectance.
Selling Points: TechShield Blue is offered on all lens designs and materials, including the full portfolio of Unity lenses. It can be ordered from VSPOne Technology Centers and through authorized Unity distributor labs. VSP Global Premier Program practices receive $12 for each order of TechShield Blue on Unity lenses, as well as five VSPOne Rewards points.

SPECIAL COLLABORATIONS
Area98 Debuts New KAOS Models
![]() More Images |
Specifics: These square, round and oval shaped frames come in both acetate and metal.
Selling Points: KK389 and KK391 present different combinations of acetate with original graphic striped patterns and crocodile prints or with sandblasted and brushed effects. In both, there is a perforated metal element at the hinge point breaking the linearity of the temples. KK392 and KK393 come in bold fluorescent color ways. Lime green, electric blue and deep red add depth. These models also feature temple details: on the KK392 small metal balls alternate with original lanyards, while the KK393 has a metal plate in colored bands incorporating the colors of the frame.
The two-tone front is also featured on the metal KK395 model, a feminine eyewear frame with a classic, yet carefree design. The rim, with thick profiles, plays on the chromatic contrasts between the inside and the outside as well as with the frame itself. Another two-tone acetate, the KK397 model is characterised by an original metal decoration on the temples: an irregular Greek fretwork reminiscent of castle spires dotted with splashes of enamel in the tones of the frame.
