Office of Naval Research TechSolutions to Provide SEALs with Fast Changing Photochromic Lenses
Product: Fast-Tint Protective Eyewear (FTPE)
Top Line: The Office of Naval Research's (ONR) TechSolutions department is set to deliver to Navy Special Warfare Command personnel later this year new protective eyewear that will eliminate the need for warfighters to stop to change out colored lenses to accommodate differences in light levels. The Fast-Tint Protective Eyewear (FTPE) was designed to enable them to maintain ballistic protection under all lighting conditions, without interrupting their operational tempo.
Close Up: Liquid crystal solutions within the lenses contain customized dyes that transition to amber, blue, dark gray or clear when an electric charge is applied. Lenses can change color automatically as wearers move in and out of varying environments, or lens colors can be altered manually by pushing a small button on the side of the glasses. Additionally, the lenses meet the American National Standards Institute's ballistic impact safety requirements.
Vital Stats: The Fast Tint Protective Eyewear (FTPE) changes color in less than 0.5 seconds, which is quicker than conventional photochromic lenses. Maj. Andrew Floyd from the Office of Naval Research, pictured here, models the eyewear, which transitions between clear for indoors, blue or amber for low-light and dark grey for daytime use, in addition to shielding a warfighters' eyes from ballistic impact, laser light and 100 percent of Ultra Violet (UV) A, B, and C rays. The FTPE was developed by AlphaMicron in Kent, Ohio along with Naval Surface Warfare Center in Crane, Ind.

EyeMD EMR Healthcare Systems Receives ONC-ATCB 2011/2012 Certification
Product: Electronic Medical Records (EMR)
Top Line: EyeMD EMR Healthcare Systems, a provider of Electronic Medical Records software for ophthalmology, announced that EyeMD EMR was certified as a Complete EHR on February 17, 2011 by Drummond Group Inc., an ONC-ATCB, in accordance with the applicable eligible provider certification criteria adopted by the Secretary of Health and Human Services.
Close Up: The ONC-ATCB 2011/2012 certification program tests and certifies that Complete EHRs reliably meet all of the 2011/2012 criteria, and EHR Modules reliably meet one or more—but not all—of the criteria approved by the Secretary of Health and Human Services (HHS) for either eligible provider or hospital technology.
Vital Stats: ONC-ATCB certification is needed to qualify providers for government incentives, and to help providers satisfy meaningful use requirements.

Dynamic Labs Debuts High Performance Blocking Pad
Product: ProEdge Blocking Pad
Top Line: Dynamic Laboratories introduces ProEdge, a blocking pad that uses proprietary technology designed to make super-hydrophobic AR coated lenses and standard uncoated lenses easier to edge.
Close Up: Dynamic Labs used a combination of materials to develop a new type of foam and adhesive never before used in the optical industry. The adhesive is the same on both sides of the pad, which makes the pad easy to use. Both large and small labs tested ProEdge on the most challenging super hydrophobic AR coated lenses and standard uncoated lenses on the market. The feedback was “overwhelmingly positive,” according to Dynamic Labs. Most labs reported that ProEdge is the best pad they’ve used on AR lenses to avoid slippage, yet the pad deblocks easily and cleanly on all lens types regardless of coating.
Vital Stats: ProEdge is available in 1000 and 2000 count rolls.
