Ultra Optics’ New UV Lacquer Offers Superior Abrasion Resistance and Adhesion

Product:
AST-1, a UV-curable, solvent-free, non-tintable, first generation AST (Advanced Silane Technology) coating developed for maximum performance.
Top Line: After much research, Ultra Optics has begun utilizing Advanced Silane Technology (AST) to create superior abrasion resistance and adhesion in a new category of UV solvent free coatings. This development has led to a new lacquer product, AST-1, which provides superior abrasion resistance, adhesion, film clarity and AR enhancement and complements premium lens technology, according to Ultra Optics (see photo).
Close Up: “With AST-1, labs are no longer forced to compromise performance in the UV systems due to limitations with tintable lacquers. AST-1 is non-tintable, allowing for increased film performance on their coating production not requiring dark tints,” said Scott Pennock, technical engineer, Ultra Optics. “The innovation of AST will allow Ultra Optics to continue bringing new and improved UV lacquer products to customers who desire coating film performance similar to thermal lacquers, but also want the application benefits of a UV system.”
Vital Stats: AST-1 provides superior scratch resistance, excellent adhesion to all lens materials, “water white” clarity (low yellow index), excellent AR hardcoat and optimal flow characteristic (viscosity). Product benefits for labs include reduced breakage from scratching, reduced returns on high-index lenses for delamination, improved optical clarity, enhanced AR durability and yield, enhanced application dynamics and lab-friendly coating and a non-tintable UV lacquer option is available. Product benefits for retailers include eyewear clarity, eyewear longevity, optical quality and AR durability.
