Lensbond System Eliminates Drilling With Nano Bonding
Product: Lensbond LB 1 and LB2
Top Line: The Lensbond system, developed by Lensbond Research & Development GmbH in Salzburg, Austria, is the first assembly technology that dispenses with drilling and opens up new possibilities based on nano bonding. The company currently offers two styles of eyewear: LB1, a titanium/plastic combination (pictured at left) and LB2, which is full plastic.
Close Up: According to Lensbond, adhesive joining methods offer a number of advantages over mechanical processes for the connection of eyewear components. Adhesives spread loads and stresses over the entire bonding surface, distributing static and dynamic loads more uniformly instead of concentrating them on highly stressed points. Adhesive bonds are more resistant to stresses caused by bending and shock. Uniform distribution of stress eliminates peak stresses from drilling, and lens warpage that causes optical distortions is eliminated. The risk of breakage due to micro-cracks is also eliminated, providing a safety benefit. All common types of lenses (standard plastic, polycarbonate, Trivex, high-index) can be used, as well as coated lenses. Lens cleaning is facilitated by the elimination of projecting parts of the frame. The eyewear is made exclusively of top quality lightweight materials such as refined titanium combined with a variety of high-tech plastics. All parts are anti-allergenic and gentle on the skin. Temples are interchangeable and fully adjustable.
Vital Stats: Lensbond offers service and intensive training along with its technology and our product. The company also provides customer-specific production solutions based on minimum sized orders. Lab Italee is the U.S. distributor for Lensbond.
