Haag-Streit USA and Optovue Team Up to Introduce Octopus/Optovue Bundle
Product: Octopus/OCT
Top Line: Haag-Streit USA and Optovue have joined forces to bundle Haag-Streit’s Octopus perimeter with Optovue’s Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) technology. The combined Octopus/OCT offering will be distributed by Optovue in the U.S.
Close Up: Optovue will be responsible for sales, installation and training of Octopus in the U.S. and Haag-Streit will be responsible for ongoing clinical support and technical service.
“Haag-Streit is happy to partner with Optovue for its leadership in OCT technology and outstanding customer service. Our bundled technologies will create an advanced package that will provide a superior diagnostic tool to the eye care industry,” said Ernest Cavin, president and chief executive officer of Haag-Streit USA.
Jay Wei, founder and CEO of Optovue, remarked, “The OCT technology provided by the RTVue and iVue combined with the functional testing from the Octopus will be the best of both worlds, offering the optimum structure-function solution.”
Vital Stats: The roots of Octopus date back to the 1970s. The Octopus 900 represents the most complete 90-degree full-field projection perimeter available today for private practices, clinics, teaching institutions and scientific applications. It allows for testing in all levels of disease – from early detection, tracking progression or performing the most sensitive examinations at the end stage of disease.
RTVue was the first FDA-cleared Fourier domain (also known as spectral domain) OCT launched in the U.S., and also the first OCT cleared by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for both corneal and retinal imaging. The iVue is the compact Fourier domain version of the RTVue OCT, offering the same scanning speed and resolution as the larger system, that includes scanning and reports for retina, retina nerve fiber and cornea assessment by the clinician.

TheRightContact.com Launches Mobile App
Product: TheRightContact.com Mobile App
Top Line: TheRightContact.com, a contact lens search engine for eyecare professionals, has launched a new mobile app for iPhone and iPad users. TheRightContact.com compiles the individual parameters of more than 2000 products from over 150 manufacturers. Over 2,000 eyecare professionals have already registered for the website, and now the mobile app is available for free within the Apple App Store.
Close Up: Like the website version, TheRightContact mobile app allows users to easily search and compare contact lenses as well as lens care products. With this new technology, practitioners can quickly find base curve, packaging and dozens of other relevant parameters all within their mobile device. Articles, videos, glossary, fitting tools, including calculators are all available on this platform. Using push notification technology users can also be notified immediately on product releases, parameter changes, and other types of news within the contact lens industry.
“For decades, contact lens professionals have used journals to obtain contact lens information. While this was an adequate tool in the past, this search method is quickly turning obsolete. Analysis shows that more and more people are turning to computers and mobile devices to find the information they need. I am proud to say that TheRightContact.com is assisting our profession in keeping up with these changes,” said Jason E. Compton OD, president, CEO and founder.
Vital Stats: The service is free for both professionals and students, but registration is required. Users can login with their current website login information or register directly from within the app.
