Vmax Vision Launches Perfectus
Product: The Perfectus
Top Line: Vmax Vision, the manufacturer of the PSF Refractor and the PSF Integro, is launching the Perfectus, which combines wavefront autorefraction and subjective refraction in a single instrument.
Close Up: Vmax Vision describes the Perfectus as the new “refraction lane-in-a-Box.” The compact unit eliminates the need for a 16- to 20-foot lane, instead requiring only a 3 by 4-foot space. It incorporates wavefront autorefraction together with Vmax Vision’s subjective point spread function refractor. With the new Perfectus, eyecare practitioners receive all of the clinical benefits of the PSF Refractor, the space-saving features of the Integro, and the advantages of a built-in wavefront autorefraction. The wavefront component will serve as a starting point. This allows practitioners to achieve a more accurate refraction in a fraction of the time.
The Perfectus eliminates the need for patients to walk from room to room. All key refractive testing can be performed at the same setting. “You really get the best of both worlds,” said Shui Lai, PhD, CEO of Vmax Vision. “The Perfectus incorporates the highly accurate subjective technology from the PSF Refractor and marries it with wavefront technology. Eyecare practitioners are now able to achieve reliable refractive outcomes with unprecedented efficiency.”
The Perfectus raises the gold standard from 20/20 to 20/12. In many cases, this elevated acuity can be achieved in less than one minute per eye, according to Vmax Vision.
The Perfectus does not rely 100 percent on the objective aspect of the wavefront autorefraction. Patient input is still the key.
“We emphasize that subjective readings are the most reliable,” said Dr. Lai. “However, an objective reading within the same device is ideal because we now have an accurate starting point that will get us to our subjective end point even faster and more accurately.” Vital Stats: The Perfectus measures a patient’s subjective visual response to a point spread function target, enabling a highly precise refraction to 0.05D, which is five times more precise than a traditional phoropter. The PSF Refraction corrects for higher-order aberrations and helps prevent over-minus in prescriptions.
