PogoTec Announces Pogo-Power, a Personal Mobile Wireless Energy Transfer System for Wearables
Product: Pogo-Power
Top Line: PogoTec announced that it has invented and is developing Pogo-Power, a unique personal “Mobile Wireless Energy Transfer System” for compatible electronic wearable devices such as eyewear. The system acts like a personal mobile wireless power and data transfer “hotspot”, allowing wearable devices to be powered while in proximity of a fully mobile and wireless base unit. These devices can be powered while being worn without limitation to geo-location. In addition to powering one or more devices, the proprietary system will be capable of transferring data to and from the devices. The system is user-friendly, convenient and safe, according to PogoTec.
Close Up: PogoTec’s Mobile Wireless Energy Transfer System allows both the power-transmitting base unit, as well as the power-receiving devices to be fully wireless and mobile; distance separated from one another and untethered from a wall mounted plug-in receptacle. This allows users of the devices to power and/or charge them anywhere.
“PogoTec’s Mobile Wireless Energy Transfer System is a perfect complement to our On-Track System which allows electronic wearable devices to be attached to eyewear without sacrificing the fashion look of eyewear,” said Richard Clompus, OD, FAAO, vice president of communications at PogoTec. “PogoTec plans to license its Pogo-Power’s Mobile Wireless Power system to companies that are developing electronic wearable devices for eyewear as well as those to be worn elsewhere on the body. Both systems are being developed as open proprietary platforms.” PogoTec will demonstrate its personal mobile wireless power “hotspot” in private prescheduled meetings in Las Vegas the week of September 14.
Vital Stats: With the proper positioning of the mobile wireless hotspot, electronic wearable device(s) can be powered and/or charged while being worn or the electronic wearable device(s) can be taken off and charged. The small mobile wireless base unit and the resulting hotspot can be carried or worn, allowing the user to fully control the location of operation.

Vital Arts and Science Intros First FDA-Cleared Ophthalmic App for Monitoring AMD and DR
Product: mVT Service
Top Line: Vital Art and Science (VAS), an emerging ophthalmic medical device company, is introducing the mVT Service, a medical device and physician portal that conveniently and accurately tracks the progression of vision damaging diseases such as age related macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy. The device is available only by prescription and consists of an easily downloaded app that can be used on any Apple smartphone or tablet. Patient test data are automatically uploaded to a physician’s portal where licensed eye-care professionals can monitor patient test results.
Close Up: Age related macular degeneration is the leading cause of blindness for people over 60, and diabetic retinopathy vision loss continues to grow with the increasing prevalence of diabetes. The new mVT Service is the only simple, low cost, mobile, validated method available for these patients to test their vision at home. Patients take a simple four- to six-minute self-test, performed on the timetable recommended by the doctor, usually twice a week. The patient’s confidential results are automatically delivered to the physician portal for review and analysis.
The mVT Service utilizes proven patented proprietary algorithms to assess visual function and detect changes between physician visits. A significant change in the eye condition sends an alert to the doctor who will determine if an earlier intervention is required, such as new appointment, assessment or treatment.
“Our clinical trials have confirmed that the results from this convenient home test correlate well with in-office physician assessment and can potentially improve clinical outcomes by bringing in patients for earlier-than-planned examination and possibly treatment,” stated Mike Bartlett, company president. Studies have shown that catching and treating vision degradation early may prevent some vision loss. “Compliance with the prescribed mVT use is very high and patients feel more engaged in the management of their disease. Both patients and doctors appreciate the convenience,” Bartlett added. “Patients like to test at home and doctors like having the results automatically collected and available anytime for analysis” he added.
Vital Stats: The mVT Service, which includes the app and the physician’s portal, is available by prescription only and costs patients $8.95/month. VAS is also welcoming a limited number of qualified prescribers into its early release program, the goal of which is to obtain prescriber/patient feedback and assure the mVT Service meets their needs.
