Zeiss Digital Refraction Technology Integrates with Leading EMR Software Systems

Product: Zeiss Refraction Technology-EMR Integration
Top Line: In a move that allows it to cover nearly all of the market, Zeiss is wirelessly integrating its Essential Line of digital refraction instruments with today’s leading Electronic Medical Record (EMR) software systems—including Compulink, Crystal, OfficeMate ExamWriter, My Vision Express, OD Link, Practice Director, and RevolutionEHR.
Close Up: For Zeiss customers, this means they can send data wirelessly and seamlessly from the Zeiss Essential Line instruments directly to their compatible EMR software of choice for a more streamlined workflow process. A key benefit of this integration is that it allows data from the Zeiss instruments to be loaded into the EMR software as the patient goes through the exam process to ensure that all relevant data is at the doctors’ fingertips and stored in the cloud for easy access.
“This joining of forces is truly a win-win for the ECP, the dispenser and the patient, and provides a synergy of service that results in a better all-around exam experience,” said Matthew Wess, associate director, dispensing tools & instruments, Carl Zeiss Vision.
Vital Stats: Zeiss Essential Line instruments that work together as a digital refraction system and interface with today’s leading EMRs include:
• Visulens 500 Auto Lensmeter
• i.Profilerplus Aberrometer/Topographer
• Visuref 100 Autorefractor/ Keratometer
• Visuscreen 100/500 Acuity Systems
• Visuphor 500 Digital Phoropter

Smart Vision Labs Launches SvOne Enterprise, a New Device That Enables Self-Guided Vision Tests

Product: SVOne Enterprise System
Top Line: The SVOne Enterprise system from Smart Vision Labs is an intuitive, vision testing platform. A pocketsized device operated on a stand, the SVOne Enterprise measures refractive error (including nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism), visual acuity, and pupillary distance. It can also collect a patient’s health history and contact information. Eye doctors then access and review the patient data on Smart Vision Labs’ cloud-based telemedicine platform to issue eyeglass prescriptions.
Smart Vision Labs is currently debuting SVOne Enterprise in five New York City optical retail locations.
Close Up: The core technology on the device to measure refractive error is wavefront aberrometry, the same technology used in LASIK surgery to identify the imperfection of the eyes. The company’s patented design has shrunken down the traditional desktop machines, which weigh more than 50 pounds, into an ultraportable, mobile device that is 10 times smaller and powered by machine learning algorithm.
Vital Stats: Patients will receive email notifications within 24 hours once their prescriptions are ready, which they can access via a password protected web portal.

EyeXam Mobile App Now Offers Dry Eye Screening

Product: EyeXam Dry Eye Screening Tool
Top Line: EyeXam is launching a dry eye screening tool within its mobile eyecare app. It is designed to provide dry eye sufferers an easy way to screen the severity of their condition on their mobile devices. The app also makes it easy for a user to search for a nearby eye doctor who can try to determine the cause of their symptoms and develop an appropriate treatment plan.
Close Up: EyeXam incorporated the Ocular Surface Disease Index (OSDI) questionnaire into its mobile app enabling people to determine the severity of their dry eye condition by answering a series of simple questions about their symptoms. The OSDI questionnaire is the most widely accepted tool used by eye doctors in the U.S. The EyeXam app also allows patients to search for a nearby eye doctor and is a convenient gateway to MyDryEyes.com, an educational website designed to answer commonly asked questions about Chronic Dry Eye (CDE). Since CDE is a progressive disease and, if left untreated, can lead to more serious problems, encouraging people to seek help as early as possible promotes better eye health.
EyeXam users are encouraged to have proactive and fruitful discussions with their eye doctors. The mobile app is designed so consumers who are experiencing dry eye symptoms, like sensitivity to light, a gritty feeling or blurred vision, can download the free iTunes or Android app, take the dry eye quiz that doctors use and trust as a subjective measure of their patients' symptoms, and share the results with their doctor. EyeXam also makes it simple for dry eye sufferers to make an appointment with their eye doctor since otherwise it may be difficult for them to achieve optimal vision and/or to wear contact lenses comfortably.
Vital Stats: The EyeXam app is available on iTunes or Google Play stores on a smartphone or tablet.
