LenSync App Simplifies Custom Rx Jobs
Product: LenSync Version 1.0 Drill Mount and Finishing App
Top Line: LenSync is a digital platform that provides ECPs and optical lab technicians with a cloud-based method of controlling every aspect of surfacing and finishing, on an account by account basis. The platform consists of an app that is designed for centralized set-up where authorized users can go to the user frame type settings and determine how every pair of glasses is made on an account-by-account basis.
LenSync allows users to connect equipment to a cloud-based system that is designed to work with any equipment that uses the OMA standard protocol for communication. Once the design and lens order is finalized, it is sent electronically to any LMS or lab designated on the network to process the lens without any additional data entry.
LenSync is easy to use for both novice operator and experienced master opticians, according to Craig Chasnov, the veteran optician who designed it. LenSync simplifies the lens fabrication process and improves any office's workflow by allowing anyone in the office to create or design a job and run it. The app has been successfully tested with several major manufacturers of lens processing equipment, Chasnov said.

• LenSync can sync together tracers, blockers, and edgers from different manufacturers. The equipment is managed by “machine agnostic” interface software that standardizes communication among various equipment. The interface can run via a standard serial port or IP address. The system can and has run over an iPhone wireless link if the internet is unavailable.
• LenSync can modify lens shapes and design rimless drill jobs with a simple to use interface. Drill coordinates are created with a simple drag and drop, with the press of a few buttons, or by manually entering coordinate data. Drill mounts actually become the easiest product to offer since they can be as custom as needed to fit the patient.
• The “finishing app” in LenSync allows non-drill mount jobs to run from LenSync’s cloud. It tells any edger exactly what is necessary on a job by job basis. Users have the ability to pre-select any parameter as a modifier ensuring flawless custom work every time. This includes grooves, metal grooves, high-curve bevels and automatic step/shelf utilization when necessary while also minimizing for best cosmetics.
• LenSync saves every trace file and job into an account, giving users the ability to recall any tracing, even a year or two later for consistent edging of lenses for a patient’s own frame. LenSync’s lab partners will have the ability to receive these trace files for remote edging today or a year later, allowing for flexibility in servicing patients. The data packet sent to the machines is also archived, which allows repeatability of an issue by a technician at any time.
• Clip-ons from the Eyenovate’s Magnetic Chemistrie collection and a new traditional version by eClips are currently available in LenSync to be made at any facility with a drilling edger. The entry process is simple and all orders are archived for later use in the cloud.
• LenSync can also monitor machine usage and efficiency to maximize the utilization of equipment and resources in any metric necessary.
Vital Stats: The cost to utilize LenSync is $1.25 per job and $0.50-$0.75 to build custom clip-ons. There is currently no set up fees or minimums required until April 15, 2017. The installation can be done remotely in a few minutes with almost no training required, LenSync said.
Version 2.0 is in beta-testing and will offer a complete LenSync lens system that enables the ECP to design a custom digital lens for a patient while graphically demonstrating items such as lens thickness in 3D, power/cyl graphs based on actual designs and weight/thickness of lenses versus other choices. The system will pick from 25+ progressive designs for best fit based on need and Rx, tints along with currently 14 custom mirror coatings are demonstrated and then sent to the lab electronically (no more tint samples) while saving to patient record for future use. The custom order can be posted to the patient's Facebook page while also demonstrating photochromic choices and any other lens options such as polarized options or clip-on options.

New Company Launched to Connect Health Plans and Eyecare Providers
Product: Illuma Care Connections, a new care coordination company for ECPs and health plan partners that provides technology-enabled services that integrate eyecare into the mainstream delivery of health care.
Top Line: Illuma, which was founded in 2016, leverages technology assets acquired from OcuHub, an eyecare health information exchange platform. Illuma’s services are designed to improve outcomes, reduce costs and drive practice growth by ensuring that patients with known vision risks are scheduled for the appropriate exams with ECPs in the Illuma network. The results of eye exams are automatically shared with patients’ primary care physicians, according to a company statement.
Close Up: Atlanta-based Illuma has partnered with BlueCross BlueShield, which is using the company’s HIPAA-compliant, cloud-based technology services to coordinate eyecare. Illuma also has a fully staffed patient contact center, according to its statement. From the practitioner’s perspective, Illuma said it “helps build the medical side of optometric practices while streamlining ophthalmology referrals for high-risk patients.”
Vital Stats: Illuma is already leading numerous programs with health plans specifically designed to improve the quality of care for diabetic patient populations, according to its statement. Diabetes is the number one cause of vision loss for adults. One of the lowest-performing Healthcare Effectiveness Data and Information Set (HEDIS) quality measures for health plans is the rate of compliance with diabetic eye exams. Illuma is driving better HEDIS and STAR quality ratings by connecting ECPs to programs that improve patient outcomes and health plan reimbursements.
