Ocutech Receives Patent for SightScope Bioptic Low Vision Telescope
Product: SightScope Top Line: Ocutech, which develops and manufactures low vision devices for the visually impaired, has received a patent for the design of its SightScope flip-up bioptic telescope system for low vision. This is the fifth patent awarded to Ocutech. Close Up: Designed to be prescribed for one or both eyes, the SightScope enables an individual with visual acuity as low as 20/100 to see almost normally. It is available in 1.7x and 2.2x powers. Thousands of visually impaired individuals throughout the world have been using the SightScope since 2011 to see the faces of loved ones, watch TV, see the teacher and blackboard in school, see signs at a distance, use computer screens, and engage in table top activities such as card playing. In many states with proper licensure, SightScope users may even drive. The devices are prescribed in over 40 countries. The SightScope patent was awarded to Henry Greene, OD, co-founder and president of Ocutech. Eye-DNA Launches 3DNA, an Eyewear Design App
Product: 3DNA, an eyewear design app Top Line: Eye-DNA announces V1.0 of new eyewear design app 3DNA which recently completed a six-month beta trial phase with over 100 users. The software introduces a new collaborative process that enables opticians and patient to rapidly design and produce luxury eyewear, sunwear and original brands. The fun, easy to use interface creates a new experience for the patient; instead of picking out eyewear, they design to suit. Close Up: Optician Inventor Dennis G. Zelazowski and parametric designer/programmer Xiliu Yang created 3DNA to equip optical retailers and labs to design and produce their own eyewear. The software enables opticians to create their own designs and frame collections and to personalize eyewear, strengthening the connection between patients and providers. By harnessing digital, on-demand eyewear production, companies gain flexibility to rapidly adapt to changes of styles in the market, provide better fitting eyewear, and offer a differentiating service in a broad market. 3DNA is an end-to-end platform that allows ECPs to adjust the shape, size, and material of the frame, which is instantly rendered in 3D, giving total creative control over the design. The software includes features like patient photo and 3D scan import, PD measurement, segmented lens simulation, and social sharing. With over 1 million possible combinations; every frame produced is unique. Premium materials including sea shell, carbon fiber and buffalo horn are offered alongside traditional acetate material. Clients choose their preferred type of hinge, nosepad, and temple end style. Although intended for optical laboratories and retailers interested in private label production, 3DNA is also suited for ECPs who want to reduce inventory costs, offer bespoke personalized eyewear, and deliver a new ‘experience’ of custom eyewear. Product: RGB Spectrometer Top Line: The BPI RGB Spectrometer is an invaluable aid for matching the colors of tinted lenses or filters. It may also be used to check CIE or (L*,a*,b*) color coordinates. It also checks the upper UVA (350nm-400nm) transmission and provides filter level information with precision.
