Cycling Sunlens by Zeiss Features ‘Tunnel Vision’ Technology
More Images |
Top Line: Assos is a Swiss brand specialized in developing and producing performance oriented fabrics to construct highly technical cycling garments. In 2011, Assos launched Zegho sunglass, with a custom-made Zeiss sunlens.
Close Up: The Zegho uses a polyamide V-Toric Zeiss lens. This plano lens, available in yellow and gray, conforms to the shape of the face and protects the wearer from UV radiation as well as from dust, debris and wind. Tests show that the patented V-Toric geometry keeps vertical prismatic power lower than any other wrapped lenses while providing crisp vision. Across the entire lens surface, therefore across all eye rotation angles, the through power is constant even on the periphery. The V-Toric lens also minimizes static prism, rotational prism, astigmatism and blur.
The lens also incorporates Tunnel Vision, a patent-pending Assos tinting technology. The lower third of the lens is clear, followed by a sharp change to reduced light transmission in the upper two-thirds of the lens. This allows a cyclist to enter a tunnel and or shadow environment without worrying that their world will go dark. A 25-degree lift of the head is all that’s required to enjoy a clear yet still-protected view ahead, allowing the rider to keep their eyewear in its place and their hands on the bars.
Vital Stats: The optical quality of AssosZegho Sunglasses is certified by Carl Zeiss Vision Sunlens’ laboratory.

The proprietary design allows for an equal distribution of light at any testing distance thereby replicating real life experiences,” said Joe Marino, president and CEO of M&S Technologies.
Vital Stats: Each glare assembly is carefully calibrated to existing luminance standards for testing under glare conditions. With consistency from exam room to exam room and visit to visit, the Glare Testing System is easy to install and utilizes long-life, high-intensity LEDs. It is sold as an option and can be added to any Smart System in use today.
