Top Line: Santinelli International will debut its dry-cut lens edging technology with the all-new Xtrimer SE-1 Industrial Edger at Vision Expo West. The debut will provide show attendees with a preview of the unit’s proprietary five-axis milling technology.
Close Up: The Xtrimer SE-1 was designed in Japan by Nidek lens edger engineers with the goal of providing the latest and most advanced dry edging technology and cutting edge software in a user-friendly, reliable, and space-saving design. The edger’s robust construction and compact size are well suited to both high volume retail labs and industrial wholesale labs, Santinelli said. The unit is also optimized for processing durable lens materials such as polycarbonate and Trivex. Its new platform will feature the company’s signature quality high curve beveling, grooving, drilling, polishing, safety beveling, customized shelf beveling, inclined beveling and partial step beveling.
Vital Stats: The Xtrimer SE-1 will be available as a stand-alone edger and is also designed to operate in a large volume capacity in conjunction with the RHU-2200 Robotic Handing System. It will be in final production design in early 2013, according to Santinelli.

Product: FirstTest

The user simply selects letters or symbols, type of test, age of the child and the screening begins. The average screening time is two minutes.

And the software can be easily calibrated by each administrator with the testing distance, letter/symbol set and test type (Critical Line, Single Letter with Crowding Bars, Massachusetts Test and Threshold Test). Product: VisionWeb Product Ordering With Safari-Compatiblity
Top Line: VisionWeb recently announced that its online ophthalmic product ordering service is now compatible with Apple Computer’s default web browser, Safari.
Close Up: In the last five years, Apple Computers have quickly become common place in many practices, but the default web browser, Safari, has limited eye care provider’s ability to fully reap the benefits of online ophthalmic ordering through VisionWeb. With this new compatibility, VisionWeb hopes to make convenient online spectacle lens, contact lens, and frame ordering a reality for as many practices as possible – regardless of their technology preferences.

Product: BPI Mark It!
Top Line: BPI is introducing a new lens marker, BPI Mark It! in its own dispenser pen.
Close Up: The handy 15 ml pen allows the marker to be used in confined spaces. For example, it may be used to mark lenses while their marks are being read in a BPI ID Tech. The solution is not water based, so it will mark regular plastic lenses as well as A/R or hydrophobic lenses. The highly visible orange mark dries in minutes and may be removed using BPI Mark Off Plus.
