Eye-tracking Assessment Tool Helps Doctors Diagnose Critical Conditions

Product:
Saccadic Vector Optokinetic Perimetry (SVOP)
Top Line: Tobii Technology’s partner i2Eye Diagnostics has developed a portable, patient-friendly method—Saccadic Vector Optokinetic Perimetry (SVOP)— that assists clinicians in the diagnosis of ophthalmic and neurological conditions and can also provide valuable research applications.
Close Up: Harnessing Tobii’s eye-tracking technology, SVOP significantly enhances the assessment process by improving ease of use and reducing patient strain compared with previous methods, while providing data for doctors to make accurate diagnoses and potentially save lives.
“The response to the instrument from visual field practitioners has been very positive, expressing a genuine need for what SVOP provides, particularly in the area of pediatrics, pediatric neurology, neuro-ophthalmology, geriatrics, oncology, major trauma and stroke,” said Paul Jobling, director of marketing at i2Eye Diagnostics. “These practitioners cite objectivity, convenience and ease of use as primary benefits, as well as the ability to get visual field assessments from patients who cannot use conventional instruments.”
Vital Stats: Ophthalmic assessments are particularly important for the early diagnosis and monitoring of numerous neurological disorders, including stroke and brain tumors. SVOP allows ophthalmologists to identify whether a patient has an impaired field of vision or an irregular blind spot, which could indicate a more severe condition such as a brain tumor, optic nerve lesion or stroke. Traditionally, this test required the patient to stay completely still for several minutes, making it particularly difficult to study children or the elderly. However, with SVOP, incorporating Tobii’s eye-tracking technology, doctors are provided with an objective, accurate, efficient, portable and patient-friendly solution to assist in the diagnosis of critical medical conditions.

New Clip-on Lens Bridges Gap between Glasses and Head-borne Telescopes

More Images
Product:
E-Scoop Lenses
Top Line: E-Scoop glasses were developed to bridge the gap between standard eyeglasses and head-borne telescopes. Whether patients have difficulty with night driving, bright light, sunlight, or simply need to see clearly in the distance, the E-Scoop lens placed over a standard eyeglass prescription will help.
E-Scoop glasses were developed by Frans Oosterhof, a Dutch optometrist who won the Herman Wijffels Award in Holland. They are now available in the U.S. exclusively through Designs for Vision, Inc.
Close Up: The E-Scoop lens is comprised of five basic optical properties: custom yellow tint, anti-reflective coating, special lens thickness, base curve, and base up prism (4 base, 6 base, or 8 base). When these five optical properties are combined into the E-Scoop lens, the image is enhanced and shifted to a different part of the macula, allowing the patient to see better.
Mixing the patient’s prescription with the E-Scoop lens will dilute the five basic optical properties. For this reason, the plano E-Scoop lens is clipped in front of the patient’s regular spectacle prescription.
Vital Stats: When ordering, please specify patient’s prescription (Designs for Vision can supply plano, single vision, bifocal, trifocal, progressive), distance PD, and prism power of the E-Scoop. If incorporating a bifocal prescription, seg height and near PD are required.
Available in 4 Δ, 6 Δ, 8 Δ powers and in one size, 53-17-145. “B” (vertical) measurement is 34mm. “ED” (Effective Diameter or diagonal measurement) is 54mm.

Precision Vision’s SK Read Eye Chart Helps Assess Visual Field Defects

Product:
SK Read Eye Chart
Top Line: The SK Read Test Two Card Set was developed to assess the reading performance of English- or Italian-speaking adults who may be encountering central or paracentral scotomas (visual field defects). It’s designed to allow words to be easily confused and facilitate the verbalization of mistakes encountered while reading. The pattern of verbalized mistakes can help to differentiate left- and right- sided scotoma interference.
Close Up: Blocks of text range in size from 8 M units down to 0.4 M units. Each block of text contains six single letters, one two-letter word, two three-letter words, three four-letter words, three five-letter words, and one six-letter word. Words were chosen from the 1,000 most commonly used words in each respective language. The use of single letters facilitates misidentification of two letter words as a single letter. Words that could stand alone with a letter missing from the beginning or end of the word were specifically included. No meaning is present in the text.
Vital Stats: 40 cm (16 in.) Available in English (Cat No. 4201) and Italian (Cat No. 4208). Price is $135.00.
