Gulden’s New Fixi-Tic Improves Accuracy of Timed Facility Testing
|
Top Line: Gulden Ophthalmics is introducing the Fixi-Tic, the Fixation Stick Timer. The device can help eye care professionals greatly improve the accuracy of test results, according to Gulden Ophthalmics.
Close Up: Accommodation and vergence facility testing have traditionally been performed by repetitively alternating lenses or prisms in front of a patient's eye and asking the patient to report when they achieve single, clear vision of a vertical bar of characters on a fixation target. The number of responses that occur in one minute are counted.
Before development of the Fixi-Tic, facility testing was challenging for clinicians. The clinician must hold the fixation target, move the vergence facility prism or accommodative flippers, count the number of responses, and also time the test while observing the patient’s eyes. With one hand holding the target, one holding the prism or flippers, and the clinician's attention focused on the patient, the challenge is to accurately time the test (one minute) without the aid of another person. Enter the Fixi-Tic, a timer that slides onto the fixation stick. It is easy to use, ergonomically designed, and it beeps once a minute of time has expired. By holding the fixation stick and providing timing functionality for the clinician, the Fixi-Tic greatly improves the accuracy of results for this test, Gulden Ophthalmics said.
Vital Stats: When evaluating accommodation and binocular vision, optometrists measure the amplitude and the response facility. Amplitude testing provides information about how much accommodation and vergence are available and facility testing provides information about the speed of the response and ability to sustain the response over an extended period of time. Accommodation and vergence facility testing are important for diagnosis and these tests also allow the optometrists to follow the progress of the patient after treatment.

SynergEyes Releases Video Tutorials for Duette Progressive Lens
More Images |
Top Line: SynergEyes has expanded its doctor resources with the release of eight video tutorials for Duette Progressive, a contact lens for astigmatic presbyopes. The videos, each only a few minutes in length, are available through the “Video Tutorials” link on the homepage of synergeyes.com/professional.
Close Up: Providing information to assist dispensing and optimize the fit of the Duette Progressive lens, the step-by-step tutorials cover: lens design, lens calculator, fitting guide, lens dispensing, optimizing fit, optimizing near vision, optimizing distance vision and optimizing patient compliance. The videos address the vision optimization made possible by the recent expansion of lens parameters to 0.1mm increments, which facilitate even more precise alignment fitting, creating optimal centration and clear, stable vision at all distances for even more patients.
Vital Stats: Utilizing a near center aspheric add zone in combination with a distance asphere, Duette Progressive provides a seamless progression of powers from distance to near, giving presbyopes GP vision at all distances along with soft lens comfort. With a choice of three add powers to give the practitioner greater control over the visual outcome, Duette Progressive is a go-to lens for presbyopes with astigmatism and is also an ideal choice for moderate to advanced presbyopes who no longer get acceptable near vision from soft multifocal contact lenses. The lens also features an 84 Dk silicone hydrogel skirt around the 130 Dk center, and includes UV-blocking materials.
