Improvements in web-based EHRs including implementations, updates, usability and customization have reversed overall EHR satisfaction in small practices from barely 13 percent meeting or exceed expectations in 2012, to 81 percent overall contented small practice EHR users in Q2 2015. The adoption rate of cloud-based EHRs in small practices in urban settings has also increased from 60 percent in 2013 to 82 percent presently.

Alcon Launches Interactive E-Book to Help Kids See Success
Top Line: Alcon is launching its 2015 back-to-school program, “Get an A+ in Eye Care,” with a free downloadable e-book, Howard and the Amazing Eye Exam. The e-book is available at www.THEeyeSOLUTION.com.
Close Up: Alcon’s mission with the children’s e-book, which features Howard the Hedgehog as he tells his classmates about his visit to the eye doctor, is to raise awareness about the importance of comprehensive eye exams for children. By reading the book with their children, parents will be inspired to schedule a comprehensive eye exam for their child. The book also helps to prepare children for a visit to the optometrist.
“Good vision is a vital tool that paves the way for a kid’s success in school,” said Catherine McDaniel, OD, pediatric optometrist and co-author of Howard and the Amazing Eye Exam. “I helped write this book because I feel it will inspire parents to take their kids to get comprehensive eye exams, and in turn help diagnose any undetected vision problems that may be holding kids back in school.”
Vital Stats: Since 80 percent of all classroom learning is visual, eye or vision issues that go unnoticed can directly impact a child’s success in school. Detecting vision issues early on is critical.
The American Optometric Association recommends that children should have a comprehensive eye exam at the ages of six months, three years, age six, and every two years to age 18. Despite this, it has been estimated that only 14 percent of children in the U.S. have had an eye exam by the age of six, when many children start school, according to Alcon.

PSI Intros Transformer, a New, All-Materials Fining Pad
Top Line: PSI is releasing Transformer, a new, all-materials fining pad. This unique pad transforms as it fines from its original coarse state to a smoother, transparent condition.
Close Up: The innovative composition of this one-step pad allows it to breakdown during processing by fining the lens at different intensities, starting rough for heavy stock removal and smoothing down for an ultra-smooth lens finish like you would achieve with a second fine process. The Transformer pad achieves consistent stock-removal on all lens materials and has a cloth backing helping the pad to conform to the tool and making removal easy.
PSI will debut the Transformer pad at booth LP6085 at Vision Expo West in Las Vegas.
Vital Stats: For optimum results, PSI recommends using the Transformer pad with their Yellow Ultimate polish pad and Free-Form AR polish.
