Shamir Launches Spark Mi Measurement Device
Top Line: Shamir Insight is launching its newest measurement device, Spark Mi. Shamir's new device looks and acts like an ordinary tabletop mirror, but is actually an advanced new measuring device that allows ECPs to take all required measurements in one click, for clear and most dark lenses.
Close Up: With Spark Mi, the patient looks in the mirror, as they naturally would, wearing their chosen glasses. The optician clicks once, and the patient’s image is captured. The image appears on the optician’s computer screen, along with an immediate and accurate, automatically measured PD. And with that, the patient’s measuring experience is complete. The optician can now get all the other measurements needed from the computer: FH, frame box, DBL, vertex, panoramic and pantoscopic tilt.
An advantage of Spark Mi is its ability to take measurements through most dark sunglass lenses. Spark Mi is capable of clearly seeing the patient’s pupils even with the darkest of lenses. Measuring with sunglasses is now just as quick, easy and accurate as for clear lenses. An attractive addition to any optician’s shop, Spark Mi offers patients greater comfort and a high-tech experience, while it saves the optician time and guarantees precision. A USB cord is included with the Spark Mi to hook up the device to the ECP’s computer. Internet connection is preferred, but not required.
“The Spark Mi is yet another innovation from Shamir designed to drive practice efficiency and patient engagement. We are excited to bring this new offering to Shamir customers to help them grow their practice, save time, and create a better patient experience." said Mark Becker, VP Marketing and Strategic Partnerships.
Vital Stats: For practices participating in Shamir’s ReCreating Perfect Vision (RCPV) Rewards Program, Spark Mi can be purchased for 262,500 rewards points. Spark Mi can also be purchased directly for $1,400.
ECPs have an opportunity to earn additional RCPV Rewards points with the purchase of the Shamir Spark Mi. When the practice sells 50+ pairs of qualifying Shamir product, within the first 90 days of purchase, they will earn an additional 45,000 RCPV Rewards points. Practices must be enrolled in Shamir’s RCPV Rewards Program to earn and redeem points.

M&S Technologies Incorporates Automated ETDRS to the Clinical Trial Suite
Top Line: M&S Technologies has added a fully-automated ETDRS protocol to the new Clinical Trial Suite.
Close Up: Automated ETDRS can quickly and accurately measure visual acuity while eliminating technician bias and erroneous results. The randomization of the letters (choose from 10 Sloan or 12 British Standard Institution letters) eliminates any possibility of memorization.
Vital Stats: The background luminance is carefully calibrated to ANSI and ISO standards but can be adjusted based on each trial’s specifications. Test results are consistent and repeatable and can be exported to any media file in any format for statistical analysis.
“We are very excited about our automated ETDRS program,” said Joe Marino, president and CEO of M&S Technologies. “A significant aspect of the system is that it eliminates technician bias, user error and provides raw data for analysis. Manual recording or mistranslation of data need no longer effect the integrity of the results.”
