BUSINESS: dba: Optical Operations MyEyeDr. Practices in Washington, D.C., Area Raise Funds for Children’s National Hospital By dba Staff Thursday, April 19, 2018 10:45 AM VIENNA, Va.—The 54 MyEyeDr. offices in the Washington, D.C., metro area raised $14,367 for the Children’s National Hospital through its Make March Matter campaign by donating $1 for every retinal photo taken throughout the month of March. “For the 14,367 patients who opted to have a retinal exam in March, we’d like to think this is the best selfie they’ve ever taken,” MyEyeDr. chief executive officer Sue Downes said in an announcement about the fund-raising effort. “Not only did this initiative encourage our patients to make time for their eye health, but simultaneously support children in need.” Each year, members of the Washington, D.C., Maryland and Virginia community have an opportunity to support their favorite businesses and Make March Matter for the 230,000 kids cared for by Children’s National. The proceeds raised improve children’s health and ensure every child, from every background and walk of life, has the opportunity to receive exceptional care, according to MyEyeDr.’s announcement.Retinal imaging creates a digital image of the retina, blood vessels and optic nerve located at the back of the eye, providing optometrists with a clear picture that can help assist with early diagnosis of systemic health problems by showing changes within the structure of the eyes. MyEyeDr. is a network of more than 350 local optometry practices located east of the Mississippi.
