During a recent visit to my doctor for a yearly check-up I was handed an iPad at the desk and was asked to review my medical history. Under my current medications, I was a little surprised to see my flu shot listed since I had received it in our N.Y. offices as part of a wellness program at Jobson.

As I write this column, people around the world are celebrating World Sight Day—ECPs, optometric companies and sight-related organizations are turning out in impressive numbers to support the 1.2 billion people worldwide who are in need of vision care. According to the World Health Organization, nearly 80 percent of vision impairment globally is avoidable—the leading causes of vision impairment are uncorrected refractive errors and cataracts

It’s been said that the eyes are the windows to the soul but in these tech-driven times, the eyes can also function as a diagnostic tool for our health. Something as simple as an eye exam can detect serious disease, such as high blood pressure, the onset of diabetes or a life-threatening condition.

It’s hard not to feel a sense of community during Vision Expo. Seeing friends and colleagues from the industry, exchanging ideas at panels and Pop Ups and networking deep into the night brings people together. Although we are all in the “business” of vision care and eyewear, at the end of the day we are all helping people see better.

NEW YORK—The Holiday season seems to start earlier and earlier every year. We could barely get out of our Halloween costumes when Holiday music began to fill the airwaves.
VMail Weekend thought it would be fun to present some obscure Holiday tunes. To get into the spirit of the season, we invite you to
take a listen.

NEW YORK—It’s official. Halloween, once thought of as a day for little kids going door to door and shouting “trick or treat” has morphed into a holiday for the big kids (aka adults) as well, placing it squarely in the realm of big business. Believe it or not, this year, more than 179 million Americans plan to celebrate Halloween, up from 171 million in 2016, according to the National Retail Federation.

So here we are in mid-June, sandwiched between Memorial Day and July Fourth, eagerly awaiting the official kickoff of summer. While I love the sun, those warm rays do not return the favor. My very fair and freckled Irish skin combined with my early years spent on the Jersey Shore (circa 1965) have caught up with me in my middle age.

A few weeks ago, my very, very old (2013) iPhone died. On a Saturday morning. Despite being plugged in all night it refused to recharge. It was dead, mort, finis—or so I thought. I must have checked the phone 30 times that morning to see if it had resurrected itself. Panic began to set in. No phone for the weekend? No Google maps? No text messages? No news?!! At that moment, I realized it was official—I was addicted to my phone. Click
