RANCHO CORDOVA, Calif.—VSP Global, which in July announced it was doubling its commitment to provide no-cost eyecare to children and adults in need around the globe, is adding a new clinic to its Eyes of Hope mobile fleet later this year. As it expands the fleet’s operations, VSP also has launched a contest that allows people to vote on a name for the new mobile clinic. The existing mobile fleet, which operate under the Eyes of Hope banner, includes the vehicles SeeZar, SeeLia and Eyenstein.

The five names in the running are: Caroleyen (pronounced Caroline), Meyeles (pronounced Miles), Odyssee (pronounced Odyssey), SeeSee, and Skeyeler (pronounced Skyler). There is a one-vote-per-person limit, and the voting will close at midnight Pacific Time on Sept. 26.

The naming contest began earlier this year when VSP network doctors, their staff members and students of optometry submitted ideas for the new mobile clinic name, according to a VSP announcement. VSP employees then voted on their top five choices. As of last Thursday, VSP began asking the public to help with narrowing down the options to the final winner. VSP will announce the new mobile clinic's name in early October.

VSP noted that the Eyes of Hope program hit a milestone in 2016 of having helped 1 million people in need by providing access to no-cost eyecare and eyewear. At that time, the company committed to reaching another million people by 2020, as VMAIL reported.

In partnership with VSP network doctors, VSP said it reached its goal two years early. Now the company has announced it is doubling its 2020 goal again, to help another million people through various Eyes of Hope programs.
