As the 1990s continue to trend, we’ve seen the comeback of the classic baby blue colorway. However, we’re also seeing this color trend adopted in sunglass lenses as opposed to a colored acetate. These light blue lenses come as solid tints, gradient effects or mirrored treatments.

Maui Jim, has named Nathan McKinley senior sales director, ophthalmic division. With McKinley, the first to fill this position at Maui Jim, the brand is putting more focus behind their Ophthalmic line, which launched in early 2018. McKinley will help the brand’s ophthalmic branch expand distribution and grow Maui Jim’s team of ophthalmic account executives, making this branch of the business a big initiative for 2019 and beyond, the brand said in a statement.

Eddie Bauer have renewed their licensing agreement through 2022. The agreement states that Charmant will continue to design and manufacture ophthalmic frames and sunglasses for Eddie Bauer over the next three years. Charmant launched the Eddie Bauer eyewear collection, which features durable materials such as stainless steel, premium acetate, flexible metals, and titanium, in 2017.

Entries are open through midnight of June 21 The Accessories Council board of directors and the Accessories Innovation Committee will select four to five finalists per category based on the criteria of excellence in design, unique appearance and/or function, consumer needs addressed by product, appropriate aesthetics, innovative materials or technology, market positioning and competitive performance, social images, emotional appeal, and sustainability.

NEW YORK—Vision Expo East 2019, held in New York City’s Javits Center, was a great success with the Show experiencing an overall attendance increase of 2.6 percent with a 5 percent rise in registration for optical buyers, according to an announcement from show organizers. Notably, one-third of attendees represented new practices and optical locations providing exhibitors the opportunity to connect with new buyers. Social media was also buzzing as the optical community generated 31 million impressions to date using the hashtag #VisionExpo, an increase of 15 percent over 2018.
