WHO: A tool used for drawing straight lines, or checking their straightness; a chosen lifestyle; the opposite of a curve.

WHAT: Optical and sun frames that are forgoing the typical curvature along the top of a frame to create a flat, straight line across the top of the frame style.

WEAR: (Left to Right) From Safilo’s Marc Jacobs collection, the Marc 322/G/S style shows off a retro vibe with its amber crystal acetate. This frame’s flat top bridge is accentuated by a double line etched into the back of the frame that becomes a visible design element through the front and is also mirrored on the temples. This Stella McCartney style from Kering Eyewear mixes simplicity with boldness. The frame style, SC0170s, featured in a classic all-black colorway shows off a bold construction on-face through its strong straightedge bridge and square silhouette. From Marchon’s CALVINKLEIN205W39NYC collection, frame style CKNYC1852S is a flirty, fun take on this straightedge bridge trend. Shown here in blush with matching tinted lenses, this frame features a triangular contrast tortoise inset on its panel bridge, adding a stylistic touch.

WHY: The construction of a straightedged, flat bridge while simple enough creates a strong, bold look without the need for extra embellishments. Some takes on this trend can give off a shield-like illusion but in a more wearable way for anyone wanting to dip into that existing trend as well. Classic and cool, the panel bridge frame trend caters to a variety of styles.
