Verana Health, a health care data company based here, announced a $30 million Series C financing led by GV (formerly Google Ventures) with participation from existing investors Biomatics Capital, Brook Byers, founder of Kleiner, Perkins, Caufield & Byers, GE Ventures, and Lagunita Biosciences. In addition, Verana Health announced that health care veteran Miki Kapoor has joined the company as president and CEO. Kapoor has two decades of experience scaling health care data companies and working with health care organizations in operations, policy, strategy, and finance.

Kno2, a provider of Interoperability as a Service (IaaS) across health care, said Thursday they will collaborate to improve the eye exam referral process within the health care community. The “Kno2: Interoperability as a Service” solution enables an efficient, closed-loop referral process “that gives physicians the information they need when they need it, improving the overall quality of care,” according to the joint announcement.

MADISON, Wis.—In an effort to add a new ownership model to the evolving eyecare marketplace, Rev360 is launching an “alternative model” and practice partnership service for ECPs to consider as they weigh the benefits of remaining as an independent versus combining their practice with a larger group under new ownership. The initiative was announced to the RevolutionEHR’s customer base earlier this week. Rev360 is approaching 6,000 optometrists in the Rev360/RevolutionEHR user base, according to company executives.

EyeDock, a leading online clinical reference for optometry. In addition, EyeDock founder Todd Zarwell, OD, has been named to the Rev360 ECP leadership team, according to the announcement. EyeDock.com is a subscription-based optometry resource featuring a comprehensive database of contact lens parameters, clinical calculators, a topical ophthalmic medicine database, GP lenses and a refracting tutorial and simulator, according to the Rev360 announcement. EyeDock.com has an active subscriber base of nearly 3,000 ECPs, according to its website, and is “poised for continued growth with…an unbeatable value-proposition for eyecare professionals.” The terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

Eyefinity, the electronic health records and practice management software unit of
VSP Global, has launched the Eyefinity Student Certification Program, a new training course that optometry students can access to become certified in using the Eyefinity EHR. The first of three planned certification sessions began Jan. 12 with 151 registrants, according to a VSP Global spokeswoman. The training program continues with sessions two and three beginning May 11 and Aug. 31, respectively. The last day to register for sessions two and three are April 30 and Aug. 24, respectively. Students need to complete only one session to become certified, and they will continue to have access to the Eyefinity EHR training environment until they graduate, according to the spokeswoman.
