HONG KONG and NEW YORK—Marchon Eyewear, Inc. announced the appointment of Matteo Gaeta as managing director of Asia Pacific, effective January 2019. Gaeta will be based in Marchon’s regional APAC headquarters in Hong Kong and will also serve as a member of Marchon’s global management team. He will report directly to Nicola Zotta, Marchon Eyewear’s president and CEO. Additionally, he will be responsible for leading the management of Marchon’s subsidiaries in China, Hong Kong, Japan and Singapore along with the company’s joint venture with Sterling in India and relations with distributors in all other APAC markets. Gaeta will oversee product development and product adaption for Asia including design teams in Hong Kong and Toyko.

Zotta continued, “Matteo’s experience spans wholesale management and leading large and complex teams as well as successfully building direct to consumer channels within both brick and mortar and digital and mobile platforms, which perfectly complements our expansion plans for the region.”

Gaeta brings to this role in-depth experience working in international markets, including having spent the last 18 years in Asia. A significant share of his career experience has been in the eyewear industry with Safilo Group, managing multiple subsidiaries throughout the region and eventually the entire business unit, serving as COO of Safilo Far East.

Additionally, he also oversaw Asia Pacific in his role as the regional president for Finnish company Fiskars, where he led the retail, wholesale and digital expansion of their high-end houseware and tableware portfolio in the region.

Gaeta has an MBA from The University of Chicago Booth School of Business and a Doctor of Business Administration from the City University of Hong Kong.
